Pets of the Week

Maya
Maya is an American Short Hair who is shy, which leads her to being on the independent side. She is also cross-eyed which could explain some of her shyness. She would be best as the only non-human in the household.
A031466

Raul
Raul is an Abyssinian. He is friendly, exploratory, and likes a good head scratch, but looks forward to some adventure in life. He has an old eye lid injury, making his eye look strange, but he can see out of it. He would love to go and find the best sunny spots in your house. So come on by and say hello!
A066590

Quimby
According to his DNA profile, Quimby is part lab, Dogo Argentino, and Staffordshire. He weighs 43 lbs and is full grown. He is very playful and has high energy. He would love to go on hikes and runs with you. Also, the dog park might be a really fun place to play and socialize with other pups! He could benefit from a refresher course in obedience training and possibly some potty training. He would love to meet you and if you have any other dogs he would like to meet them too before you adopt him.
A066192

Domino
Domino is a 5 year old Bullie and Mastiff cross. She is a polite and gentle lady who would like to go out and play with you. She would also enjoy hanging out with you on the couch, or going for walks, or hikes in the warm months. A refresher course in obedience and manners training might be appropriate. Also, she likes other dogs so if you have any she would love to meet them before you adopt her.
A067027

Clementine
Clementine has come out of her shell, but is still a little leery of new situations/people, so it takes her a while to warm up.She would love hiking, running, or any other exercise. She is great with other dogs, and would love to go play at the dog park.SEE HER AT --- ALL FUR FRIENDS, 2570 Camino Entrada.

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR PARTNERS
Students learn valuable skills at Santa Fe Tails!

Santa Fe Tails Dog Academy & Daycare goes out of its way to help Shelter animals in need. Here’s more on the business:

Since its opening in November 2008, Santa Fe Tails has partnered with The New Mexico School for the Deaf’s work study program. This program is designed to give deaf and hard-of-hearing students experience in the workplace, which allows them to develop both the social and work skills they will need after they graduate.

This partnership also benefits the dogs and employees at Santa Fe Tails. The people learn about diversity and communication in a working environment. Some employees even begin to learn to sign. The dogs learn that people might talk with their hands and that barking may not be the way to get attention.

Both Joey and Hannah Padilla studied American Sign Language in college, which is very helpful in helping the students in learning the job.

STOP THE VIOLENCE
APNM boosts reward offer!

The reward of information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for mutilating a puppy’s ears has grown to $7,500.

Animal Protection of New Mexico added funds to the existing $5,000 reward offered by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter in hopes of catching the perpetrators. The 6-week-old puppy, dubbed Petie by his rescuers, was found bloodied, freezing and nearly dead on the side of the road in La Cienega on Feb. 2. The pup’s ears had been mostly chopped off. He is now recovering at a foster home.

Intentionally or maliciously torturing, mutilating, injuring or poisoning an animal is a fourth-degree felony.

Those with information are asked to call the New Mexico Attorney General’s Cruelty Hot Line at 877-5Humane (877-548-6263). Callers may remain anonymous.

Check out our Facebook page for the latest on Petie!

BUT BABY IT’S COLD OUT THERE

If you have these items on hand, consider donating them to us (no sheets, please). Please drop them off at either the Receiving or Adoption Building at the Shelter or at our resale store, Look What the Cat Dragged In, 2570 Camino Entrada. The Shelter dogs will thank you for it, and so will we!

PETSMART CHARITIES® RESCUE WAGGIN’®
Sending homeless dogs for the ride of their lives

Every year, our Shelter receives more dogs and cats than we can possibly find homes for in our community.

That’s why we’re constantly looking for new spay/neuter strategies to reduce the number of pets coming in, while at the same time developing innovative programs that help us get more pets adopted out.

Our goal is to find every adoptable pet a loving home, so we have partnered with the PetSmart Charities® Rescue Waggin’® program to increase the number of adoptable dogs and puppies that find new families.
